Black cumin seed-derived extracellular vesicles (BCS-EVs) are nanoscale, membrane-bound vesicles isolated from the seeds of *Nigella sativa*. As a type of plant-derived extracellular vesicle (PDEV), they are being investigated for their potential as natural, biocompatible drug delivery vehicles. Preclinical studies have explored their use in encapsulating hydrophobic drugs, such as the antifungal itraconazole, for the treatment of glioblastoma. BCS-EVs typically exhibit a spherical morphology, a negative surface charge, and a size range of approximately 100-140 nm. While they demonstrate selective cytotoxicity toward glioblastoma cells compared to healthy cells, research indicates they may have lower blood-brain barrier permeability compared to other PDEVs like those derived from ginger or aloe.
