Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Black Maitake Odaira Extract (BMOE) is a proprietary natural health product (NHP) derived from the *Grifola frondosa* (Maitake) mushroom, specifically the 'Black Maitake' variety. Developed and manufactured by Shogun Maitake Canada, BMOE is characterized by its immunomodulatory and antineoplastic properties. Preclinical studies in 2D and 3D glioblastoma (U-87 MG) and breast cancer models have shown that the extract induces apoptosis and can enhance the efficacy of standard chemotherapeutic agents such as temozolomide. Its bioactivity is primarily attributed to fungal polysaccharides, including beta-glucans, which are known to modulate immune responses and exert direct inhibitory effects on cancer cell growth.
