Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Black olive refers to the ripened fruit of *Olea europaea L.*. While the fruit itself is a common food item, an extract derived from black olives, often referred to as black olive extract or black olive hydroalcoholic extract, has been investigated for its therapeutic potential. This extract is rich in phytochemicals, including phenolic compounds and anthocyanins, which are believed to contribute to its biological activities. Preclinical studies in animal models have indicated that black olive extract possesses antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective properties. It has also shown efficacy in preventing bone loss and augmenting bone mineral density, and in modulating specific signaling pathways and gene expressions related to stress and neurological function.
