Black soybean testa extract is a polyphenol-rich botanical preparation derived from the outer seed coat (testa) of the black soybean (Glycine max). It is particularly high in anthocyanins—especially cyanidin 3-glucoside—as well as catechins and procyanidins. The primary bioactive components are known for their antioxidant properties and have been linked to various health benefits. Mechanistically, the extract has demonstrated effects such as up-regulation of uncoupling proteins (UCP-1 in brown adipose tissue and UCP-2 in white adipose tissue), which enhances energy expenditure; down-regulation of inflammatory cytokines like tumor necrosis factor-α and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1; inhibition of angiotensin-converting enzyme activity; reduction in fat accumulation; improvement in glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity; lowering blood pressure via modulation of the renin-angiotensin system; stabilization against oxidative stress by reducing protein autoxidation; and improvement of plasma lipid profiles. These actions support its use as a functional food or dietary supplement for prevention or adjunct management of obesity, diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and conditions related to oxidative stress[2][3][4][5].
