Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Black tomato concentrate extract is a dietary supplement derived from the concentrated juice or pulp of black tomatoes, which are cultivars of Solanum lycopersicum characterized by their high content of anthocyanins and other polyphenols. These bioactive compounds give the fruit its dark color and are associated with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiproliferative (anticancer), and potential hypnotic effects. Black tomato extracts have been studied for their possible benefits in improving erectile function[2], reducing oxidative stress, supporting cardiovascular health by lowering triglyceride levels[5], enhancing fertility parameters such as sperm motility[6], and potentially aiding in cancer prevention through radical scavenging activity and inhibition of cell proliferation[6]. The mechanism is primarily attributed to the antioxidant properties of anthocyanins and other phenolic compounds present in high concentrations in these tomatoes.
