Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Blackcurrant extract + citrus extract** is a combination of two botanical extracts rich in polyphenols—anthocyanins and flavonols (from blackcurrant, *Ribes nigrum*) and citrus flavonoids such as hesperidin (from citrus fruits like orange). This combination has been investigated for its potential to modulate postprandial (after meal) blood glucose, insulin response, and gut hormone secretion, primarily due to the presence of bioactive (poly)phenols. In controlled trials, blackcurrant extract alone can reduce early postprandial glycemia and insulin response, but when combined with citrus extract, results are mixed, with some evidence showing that the citrus component may attenuate the glucose-lowering effect of blackcurrant polyphenols[1][3]. The main research focus is on glycemic modulation, possible minor cognitive effects, and, more broadly, antioxidant activities and cardiometabolic health support.
