BLASTX

BLASTX is an antimicrobial wound gel developed by Next Science that utilizes proprietary XBio Technology to target and disrupt bacterial biofilms. The formulation is designed to break down the extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) matrix of the biofilm, which typically protects bacteria from traditional treatments. Once the biofilm is disrupted, the active ingredient, benzalkonium chloride (a quaternary ammonium compound), can effectively kill the exposed bacteria, including Gram-positive and Gram-negative species, fungi, and persister cells. BLASTX is FDA 510(k)-cleared as a medical device for the management of various wound types, including stage I-IV pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, and post-surgical wounds. It is also being evaluated in Phase 4 clinical trials for the treatment of chronic burn wounds.
