Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BlastX (also known as Next Science Wound Gel) is a topical antimicrobial gel developed by Next Science using its proprietary Xbio technology. Unlike traditional antibiotics that target specific bacterial metabolic pathways, BlastX is designed to physically and chemically disrupt the bacterial biofilm matrix. Biofilms are protective layers created by bacteria that provide resistance to the host immune system and conventional antimicrobial treatments, often leading to chronic, non-healing wounds. By deconstructing this matrix, BlastX exposes the bacteria, inhibits their growth, and prevents recolonization. It is primarily indicated for the management of chronic wounds, including diabetic foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, and venous leg ulcers, and has been clinically evaluated against standard-of-care treatments like triple antibiotic ointments (e.g., Neosporin).
