Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Blemaren is a urinary alkalinizing agent formulated as a fixed-dose combination of citric acid, potassium bicarbonate, and anhydrous sodium citrate. It is primarily indicated for the oral chemolysis (dissolution) of uric acid stones and the prevention of recurrence in patients with urate and calcium oxalate nephrolithiasis. The drug's mechanism of action involves increasing the pH of urine to a target range (typically 6.2 to 7.2), which significantly enhances the solubility of uric acid and facilitates the dissolution of existing calculi. Furthermore, the increased excretion of citrate ions complexes with urinary calcium, reducing the concentration of free calcium ions and thereby inhibiting the crystallization of calcium oxalate. It is typically administered as effervescent tablets, and the dosage is titrated based on urinary pH monitoring.
