Overview

This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of four cytotoxic agents—bleomycin, carmustine, cisplatin, and mitoxantrone. Each component has a distinct mechanism of action targeting cancer cells through different pathways: - **Bleomycin** is an antitumor antibiotic that induces DNA strand breaks via free radical formation. - **Carmustine** (a nitrosourea) alkylates and crosslinks DNA and RNA, inhibiting replication and transcription. - **Cisplatin** forms DNA crosslinks that prevent cell division and induce apoptosis. - **Mitoxantrone** intercalates into DNA, inhibits topoisomerase II, and disrupts both DNA repair and synthesis. This combination is used in oncology as part of multi-agent regimens for the treatment of various lymphomas or other malignancies. The rationale for combining these drugs is to maximize antitumor efficacy by attacking cancer cells through multiple mechanisms while minimizing overlapping toxicities[2][4].
