Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bleomycin + etoposide + platinum (commonly known as the BEP regimen) is a standard combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of bleomycin, etoposide, and a platinum agent (typically cisplatin). It is widely used as a first-line treatment for germ cell tumors, including testicular cancer and ovarian germ cell tumors, as well as gestational trophoblastic neoplasia and malignant sex cord-stromal tumors. Bleomycin is a glycopeptide antibiotic that induces DNA strand breaks; etoposide is a semisynthetic podophyllotoxin derivative that inhibits topoisomerase II; and cisplatin (or another platinum agent) is an alkylating-like agent that forms DNA crosslinks. Together, these agents synergistically inhibit DNA replication and transcription, leading to cell death in rapidly dividing cancer cells.
