Overview
This is a combination therapy of two agents—bleomycin and sodium tetradecyl sulfate (marketed as Fibrovein)—used primarily for sclerotherapy in the treatment of vascular malformations and varicose veins. Bleomycin is a cytotoxic glycopeptide antibiotic with antineoplastic activity, acting mainly by inducing DNA strand breaks through free radical formation. Sodium tetradecyl sulfate is an anionic surfactant that acts as a sclerosant, causing endothelial damage and subsequent fibrosis when injected into veins or vascular lesions. The combination may be used intralesionally to enhance sclerosing efficacy in certain vascular anomalies[3][6][8].
