Overview
Bleomycin A6 (also known as boanmycin) is an antineoplastic antibiotic developed in China and investigated primarily for the treatment of squamous cell lung cancer. It is a member of the bleomycin family of glycopeptide antibiotics and functions as a cytotoxic agent by inducing DNA strand breaks through free radical formation. This mechanism leads to inhibition of DNA synthesis and subsequent tumor cell death. Clinical studies indicated that Bleomycin A6 could alter the tumor microenvironment; however, long-term treatment may contribute to relapse or metastasis. The drug was evaluated in phase I clinical trials but its development appears to have been discontinued[1][3][4][5][10].
