Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Bletilla striata oligosaccharides** are low molecular weight neutral polysaccharides predominantly composed of glucose and mannose, extracted and purified from the tubers of the traditional Chinese medicinal plant *Bletilla striata*. Their primary mechanisms of action involve anti-inflammatory effects, protection of the intestinal mucosal barrier, and modulation of gut microbiota. They have demonstrated efficacy in preclinical models for alleviating chemotherapy-induced intestinal mucositis and improving ulcerative colitis, mainly by attenuating inflammatory cytokines (e.g., IL-6, TNF-α, IL-1β), enhancing tight junction protein and mucin expression, and regulating gut microbial composition. The TLR4-NF-κB/Myd88 signaling pathway has been implicated as a key anti-inflammatory mechanism. BO differ from larger Bletilla striata polysaccharides in having lower molecular weight, improved solubility, and higher stability, making them more suitable for dietary supplement use for gastrointestinal protection[1][4][5].
