Blixeprodil (GM-1020) is a novel small molecule NMDA receptor antagonist structurally related to arketamine and ketamine. It is being developed as an orally bioavailable antidepressant for the treatment of major depressive disorder and potentially other depressive disorders. Unlike ketamine—which requires in-clinic administration due to poor oral bioavailability and dissociative side effects—blixeprodil is designed for oral use with improved safety and tolerability. Preclinical studies have shown rapid antidepressant-like efficacy without significant motor side effects at therapeutic exposures.
