Blonanserin is a second-generation (atypical) antipsychotic used primarily for the treatment of schizophrenia. It acts as a potent antagonist at dopamine D2 and D3 receptors and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors, with additional but weaker antagonism at α1-adrenergic receptors. Blonanserin has improved tolerability compared to many other antipsychotics, with fewer extrapyramidal symptoms, less sedation, and reduced risk of hypotension or significant weight gain.
