Drug intelligence / Profile preview
"blood substitute - human" is an early-stage (Discovery phase) investigational synthetic blood substitute being developed by NanoGroup and its subsidiary nanoSanguis, a Polish biotechnology company. It is a perfluorocarbon (PFC) nano-emulsion designed to temporarily replace red blood cell function by transporting oxygen and carbon dioxide throughout the body. The active ingredient consists of perfluorocarbon nanoparticles (often referred to as nanorespirocytes) that physically dissolve and carry respiratory gases in a manner analogous to hemoglobin in red blood cells. The drug is intended for use in emergency medicine settings where a temporary substitute for red blood cell function is needed (e.g., acute blood loss or trauma).
