Overview

BLS-M07 is an orally administered therapeutic vaccine developed for the treatment of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia grade 3 (CIN 3). It utilizes genetically engineered *Lactobacillus casei* (or *L. paracasei*) bacteria to express the human papillomavirus (HPV) type 16 E7 antigen on their surface. Upon oral administration, these bacteria enter through Peyer's patches in the small intestine and induce a gut-associated lymphoid tissue immune response, which subsequently leads to mucosal immunity in the cervix. The mechanism involves presentation of the HPV16 E7 antigen by antigen-presenting cells to cytotoxic T cells, resulting in a cellular immune response that targets HPV-infected cells. Clinical studies have demonstrated increased production of serum HPV16 E7-specific antibodies and regression of CIN 3 lesions following treatment with BLS-M07. The vaccine is notable for its non-invasive oral delivery and favorable safety profile[1][2][4][6].
