Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Blue M Gel (often stylized as blue®m) is a topical oral care formulation developed by BlueM, a company founded by Dutch oral surgeon Dr. Peter Blijdorp. The gel is specifically designed to enhance wound healing and manage inflammatory conditions in the oral cavity through the controlled release of active oxygen. Its mechanism of action involves increasing oxygen tension at the wound site, which promotes angiogenesis, stimulates collagen synthesis, and creates an environment that inhibits the growth of anaerobic bacteria. The formulation typically includes sodium perborate as the primary oxygen source, along with organic honey (which releases hydrogen peroxide enzymatically), lactoferrin (an iron-binding protein with antimicrobial properties), and xylitol. Blue M Gel is used clinically for the treatment of periodontitis, peri-implantitis, and to accelerate healing after oral surgeries, such as secondary cleft lip correction.
