Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Blueberries are a whole-food dietary intervention studied for their potential cardiometabolic benefits. In a randomized crossover trial led by researchers at University Hospital, Linköping, the effects of consuming 150 grams of frozen blueberries on exercise days were evaluated in healthy subjects. The primary bioactive components of blueberries are anthocyanins and other polyphenolic compounds, which function as natural antioxidants. The intervention aims to modulate cardiovascular risk markers, including fasting glucose and HDL-cholesterol levels, particularly in the context of physical exercise. This study represents a nutritional/dietary approach to managing metabolic health rather than a traditional pharmaceutical intervention.
