BLX-0871

BLX-0871 is an oral, isoform-selective activator of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK). It is being developed as part of a dual-target therapy for obesity, in combination with an oral GLP-1 agonist (BLX-7006). The mechanism of action involves enhancing skeletal muscle glucose uptake and lipid metabolism. Preclinical studies in animal models have shown that the combination of BLX-0871 and a GLP-1 agonist leads to enhanced weight loss, improved insulin sensitivity, and significant metabolic improvements compared to monotherapy. This approach aims to address obesity through complementary pathways by targeting both appetite suppression/glucose regulation (GLP-1) and metabolic enhancement via AMPK activation[1].
