Overview

BLX-883 is a recombinant form of alfa interferon developed by Biolex Therapeutics using its proprietary LEX System. It is designed for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. BLX-883 has been shown in clinical studies to be similar in bioactivity and safety profile to commercially available alfa interferon products, such as Intron A. The drug was also used as the active ingredient in Locteron, a controlled-release formulation co-developed with OctoPlus, which aimed to improve patient compliance and reduce side effects by enabling dosing every two weeks instead of weekly. The mechanism of action involves immunomodulation and antiviral activity through stimulation of immune responses against viral infections[2][4][5][10].
