Overview

BM-ECs + PRPE is an investigational autologous cell therapy combination consisting of bone marrow-derived endothelial cells (BM-ECs) and platelet-rich plasma extract (PRPE). Developed by the South China Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine, this therapy is designed to treat critical limb ischemia (CLI), a severe form of peripheral artery disease characterized by inadequate blood flow to the extremities. The treatment involves the local injection of the patient's own endothelial cells, which are intended to promote neovascularization and angiogenesis, combined with PRPE, which provides a concentrated source of growth factors to support cell survival and tissue regeneration. A Phase 1 clinical trial (NCT02993809) was initiated to evaluate the safety and preliminary efficacy of this autologous biologic combination.
