Overview

BM-MSCL is a stable human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cell line. It was generated by infecting primary human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) with a retroviral SV40 vector to enable extensive expansion while maintaining a stable phenotype. Characterized by cell surface markers such as CD54, CD90, CD105, CD166, and CD49e, BM-MSCL was utilized in a rodent model of meniscal injury and post-traumatic osteoarthritis as a control. In this study, intra-articular injections of BM-MSCL did not demonstrate significant improvements in meniscus tear healing or reduction of cartilage degradation compared to saline-treated control animals. Furthermore, BM-MSCL exhibited higher expression of catabolic enzymes like MMP2, MMP13, and ADAMTS4 when compared to cartilage-derived progenitor cell lines.
