Overview

BM-R19 is a generic version of lurasidone hydrochloride, an atypical antipsychotic developed by Bainei Pharmaceutical (Beimei Pharma). It is currently in Phase 1 clinical development in China, specifically undergoing bioequivalence (BE) studies to demonstrate its equivalence to the reference drug Latuda. Lurasidone's mechanism of action involves high-affinity antagonism at dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors, which is characteristic of atypical antipsychotics. Additionally, it acts as a partial agonist at the 5-HT1A receptor and a potent antagonist at the 5-HT7 receptor, properties that may contribute to its antidepressant and pro-cognitive effects. Unlike many other antipsychotics, lurasidone has negligible affinity for histamine H1 and muscarinic M1 receptors, resulting in a reduced propensity for weight gain and sedation.
