Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BM19 is a novel piperazine arylideneimidazolone derivative, specifically characterized as a biphenylmethylene derivative, that functions as an efflux pump inhibitor and biofilm inhibitor [P2660]. Developed by researchers at Jagiellonian University and Wroclaw Medical University, BM19 is designed to target multidrug-resistant (MDR) *Helicobacter pylori* strains [P2660]. It acts as an adjuvant to potentiate the activity of standard antibiotics, such as metronidazole and clarithromycin, by inhibiting the HefA component of the Resistance-Nodulation-Division (RND) efflux system [P2660]. This inhibition leads to increased intracellular accumulation of antibiotics and significantly suppresses biofilm formation, offering a promising strategy to overcome antibiotic resistance in *Helicobacter pylori* eradication therapies [P2660].
