Overview

BMAA is a monoclonal antibody candidate developed by Chiome Bioscience that targets Semaphorin 3A (SEMA3A). SEMA3A is a secreted protein traditionally known for its role in axonal guidance, but it has also been identified as a significant factor in the progression of various renal pathologies. In kidney diseases such as diabetic nephropathy and acute kidney injury, SEMA3A is often upregulated, leading to podocyte injury, inflammation, and glomerular filtration barrier dysfunction. BMAA is designed to neutralize SEMA3A signaling, thereby potentially protecting renal tissue and preserving kidney function. The drug is part of Chiome Bioscience's therapeutic antibody pipeline and is being explored for its potential to treat chronic and acute kidney conditions.
