Overview

BMB72 is a live attenuated bacterial vaccine vector derived from *Listeria monocytogenes*. It is genetically engineered with deletions in the *actA* and *plcB* genes, which significantly reduce its virulence by impairing its ability to spread cell-to-cell and escape from phagosomes, respectively. The vector is designed to express and secrete the nucleoprotein (NP) of the Influenza A virus. By utilizing the natural intracellular lifecycle of *Listeria*, BMB72 delivers the viral antigen directly to the cytosol of antigen-presenting cells, thereby facilitating the induction of robust CD8+ T-cell responses and mucosal immunity. It has been investigated in early-phase clinical trials for both oral and transcutaneous administration, sometimes in combination with adjuvants like cholera toxin.
