BMC-CLI (also known as SurgWerks-CLI) is an autologous bone marrow stem cell therapy being developed by ThermoGenesis (formerly Cesca Therapeutics) and Beijing Boya Research Institution (via its TG Medical subsidiary) for the treatment of critical limb ischemia (CLI) and lower limb ischemic disease. The therapy involves harvesting bone marrow from the patient, processing it at the point-of-care using the proprietary SurgWerks-CLI kit and VXP system to produce a highly concentrated autologous bone marrow cell (aBMC) formulation, and then intramuscularly injecting the cells into the ischemic lower limb. The transplanted stem and progenitor cells are intended to promote neovascularization, stimulate blood vessel regeneration, and improve blood circulation, thereby preventing major limb amputation in patients with advanced, non-reconstructable CLI. The therapy is currently in Phase 3 clinical development.
