Overview

BMC426 is a preclinical, microbiome-based therapeutic candidate being developed by Biomica, a subsidiary of Evogene. [4] It is formulated as a Live Bacterial Product (LBP), which consists of a rationally designed consortium of four live bacterial strains. [2, 6] The strains were selected for their ability to address gut dysbiosis and are intended to provide therapeutic effects through metabolic and immune modulation. [1, 2, 6] BMC426 is being investigated for the treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), with a focus on alleviating visceral pain. [1, 3, 6] Preclinical in-vivo studies have shown that treatment with BMC426 significantly reduced visceral sensitivity in animal models compared to placebo. [2] The development of BMC426 utilizes Biomica's proprietary PRISM computational platform, which is powered by Evogene's MicroBoost AI technology, to analyze data from IBS patients and design the bacterial consortium.
