BMD-001 is an intravenously administered brain-targeted RNA interference nanomedicine consisting of an antisense oligonucleotide against microRNA miR-485-3p encapsulated in a proprietary brain-penetrant polymer nanoparticle, being developed by BIORCHESTRA for neurodegenerative diseases including Alzheimer’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease.[1][3][5][9][12] By inhibiting miR-485-3p in the central nervous system, BMD-001 is designed to modulate upstream epigenetic and inflammatory pathways to normalize homeostatic processes, reduce amyloid-β and tau deposition, decrease neuroinflammation and microglial activation, and improve cognitive function in preclinical rodent and non-human primate models.[1][3][9][10] The program leverages BIORCHESTRA’s proprietary Brain Targeting RNAi Nanomedicine (BTRiN) platform to achieve broad and sustained biodistribution in the brain after systemic IV dosing, with ongoing development aimed at first-in-human studies in Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders.[1][3][5][9][12]
