Overview

BMD-1141 is a first-in-class recombinant fusion protein under development for the treatment of various forms of non-scarring alopecia, including alopecia areata, chemotherapy-induced alopecia, and androgenetic alopecia. The drug consists of an active domain derived from parathyroid hormone (PTH) (specifically PTH 1–33) linked to a collagen binding domain. Its mechanism involves agonism at the parathyroid hormone/parathyroid hormone-related peptide receptor (PTH/PTHrP receptor or PTH1R), which stimulates beta-catenin signaling in hair follicles and promotes transition to the anagen growth phase. This targeted approach aims to restore hair growth without immunosuppression or significant side effects such as hypercalcemia. The drug is administered subcutaneously every 1–6 months and has demonstrated efficacy in preclinical models for multiple types of hair loss[1][2][4][5][8]. Developed by BiologicsMD.
