Overview

BMF-650 is an investigational, next-generation, oral small-molecule glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor (GLP-1 receptor) agonist (GLP-1 RA) under development by Biomea Fusion. It is designed to improve glucose-stimulated insulin secretion and provide superior glucose control compared to existing oral GLP-1 RAs. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that BMF-650 has higher bioavailability, a smoother pharmacokinetic profile, and greater protein binding than comparator drugs. These properties may translate into improved tolerability and support successful dose escalation in patients. In human donor islet studies and cynomolgus monkey models, BMF-650 significantly enhanced insulin secretion and reduced food intake during peak drug concentration periods with sustained effects throughout the day. The drug is being developed as a potential oral treatment for diabetes mellitus and obesity[1][4][5][6].
