BMI2012

BMI2012 is a self-amplifying RNA (saRNA) vaccine candidate developed by BMI Korea (BMI OrganBank) for the prevention of COVID-19. It is specifically designed to target the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron JN.1 variant. Unlike conventional mRNA vaccines, saRNA vaccines incorporate viral replication machinery (typically derived from alphaviruses) that allows the RNA template to replicate itself once inside the host cell. This mechanism enables the production of high levels of the target antigen from a significantly lower initial dose compared to standard mRNA platforms, potentially improving the duration and magnitude of the immune response. BMI2012 is currently being evaluated in a Phase 1 clinical trial to assess its safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity in healthy adults.
