Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BMS-582949 + statin refers to a combination regimen of the investigational small molecule drug BMS-582949, a potent and selective p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (p38 MAPK) inhibitor, with a statin at a stable low to moderate dose. BMS-582949 is designed to inhibit the activation and functional activity of p38MAPK, a key regulator of inflammatory pathways relevant to atherosclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis. Statins are HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors primarily used to lower cholesterol and reduce cardiovascular risk, and also have anti-inflammatory properties. This combination has been evaluated for the reduction of inflammation within atherosclerotic plaques and for effects on arterial inflammation and cardiovascular risk biomarkers.
