Overview

BMS-686117 is an investigational peptide drug developed as an 11-mer agonist of the glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor (GLP‑1 receptor). It was designed for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and has a short intrinsic pharmacokinetic half-life of approximately two hours. To address this, extended-release formulations were explored using zinc adducts and encapsulation in PLGA microspheres to prolong its action. The drug has been studied for subcutaneous and pulmonary delivery routes. Its mechanism of action is as a GLP‑1 receptor agonist, stimulating insulin secretion in response to elevated blood glucose levels[2][3][5][6].
