Overview

BMS-816336 is an orally active small molecule inhibitor developed by Bristol Myers Squibb as a potent and selective inhibitor of the enzyme 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1 (11β-HSD1). The drug was investigated primarily for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and dyslipidemia due to its ability to inhibit conversion of inactive cortisone to active cortisol in metabolic tissues—a mechanism believed to improve glucose homeostasis and lipid profiles in patients with metabolic disorders[4][5][7]. Early clinical studies focused on evaluating safety, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics in healthy volunteers[1]. Development for these indications has since been discontinued[7].
