Overview
**BMS-824393 + peginterferon alfa-2a + ribavirin** is a discontinued experimental combination regimen investigated for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 1 infection. BMS-824393 is a small molecule inhibitor of the hepatitis C virus NS5A protein, acting directly to inhibit viral replication. Peginterferon alfa-2a is a pegylated interferon with immunomodulatory, antiviral, and antiproliferative activities, while ribavirin is a nucleoside analog with broad-spectrum antiviral properties. In clinical trials, this combination targeted genotype 1 HCV patients who were treatment-naive. BMS-824393 showed potent NS5A inhibition and a promising pharmacokinetic profile for once-daily oral dosing. Peginterferon alfa-2a (marketed as Pegasys) is administered subcutaneously, and ribavirin (marketed as Copegus) is administered orally. This regimen was discontinued after phase 2 development[3][5].
