Overview

BMS-981164 is a human monoclonal antibody that targets interleukin 31 (IL-31) by acting as an antagonist of the interleukin 31 receptor. It was developed for the treatment of atopic dermatitis and other inflammatory conditions where the pruritogenic (itch-inducing) and inflammatory pathways mediated by IL-31 are implicated. The drug was originally developed by ZymoGenetics and later further developed by Bristol Myers Squibb. Its mechanism involves inhibiting signaling through the interleukin 31 receptor to reduce inflammation and pruritus associated with skin disorders[3][4]. Clinical development reached phase 1 trials in healthy subjects and adults with atopic dermatitis but has since been discontinued for these indications[3][6].
