By binding to CD73, BMS-986179 induces clustering and internalization of the protein, thereby inhibiting its enzymatic activity. This prevents the conversion of extracellular adenosine monophosphate (AMP) to adenosine, reducing immunosuppressive adenosine levels in the tumor microenvironment.
