The drug is being studied for its potential use in treating idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a progressive lung disease characterized by scarring and loss of elasticity in the lungs, which can lead to respiratory failure. Elevated levels of lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) have been observed in IPF patients, where LPA contributes to abnormal wound healing and fibrosis. By blocking LPAR1, BMS-986337 may help modulate these pathological processes and offer therapeutic benefit for IPF patients.
