Overview

BN108 is an orally administered botanical extract derived from the plant *Anemarrhena asphodeloides*, developed by Bionovo for the treatment of breast cancer. The drug's primary active constituent responsible for its cytotoxic activity is timosaponin AIII (TAIII), a steroidal saponin of the coprostane type. BN108 induces cancer cell death through two distinct pro-apoptotic pathways: the rapid inactivation of the AKT and mTOR (specifically mTORC1) signaling pathways and the induction of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. It was designed as a targeted anticancer compound with selective cytotoxicity, aiming to spare normal cells and potentially offer better tolerability than conventional chemotherapy.
