Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**BNG-1 Powder** is a Taiwan-approved, orally administered multi-herb traditional Chinese medicine formula developed for adjunctive treatment of ischemic stroke in adults younger than 65 years who are already receiving aspirin. The prescription product contains eight botanical ingredients: Angelica sinensis root, Astragalus root, bamboo silica, Bupleurum root, Coptis rhizome, Glycyrrhiza root, ginseng root, and Scutellaria root. Preclinical work describes broad phosphodiesterase inhibition, particularly PDE1 and PDE7A1, with proposed antiplatelet, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, and cerebral-hemodynamic effects. In a randomized clinical study in acute ischemic stroke, BNG-1 plus aspirin was well tolerated but did not demonstrate a statistically significant efficacy difference versus placebo plus aspirin in the reported 42-patient phase 2 analysis.
