Drug intelligence / Profile preview
BNSO-001 is a topical ophthalmic nanoparticle-based emulsion of tacrolimus being developed by BNS Ophthalmics, a joint venture between RAFARM and BioNanoSim. It utilizes BioNanoSim's proprietary nanotechnology platform (NTPO) to enhance the delivery, stability, and bioactivity of tacrolimus in ocular tissues. Tacrolimus is a potent immunosuppressive agent that acts as a calcineurin inhibitor, reducing the production of inflammatory cytokines. BNSO-001 is specifically designed for the treatment of chronic anterior uveitis, an inflammatory condition of the eye. The drug has received FDA Orphan Drug Designation and is being evaluated via an accelerated 505(b)(2) regulatory pathway, with Phase I/IIa clinical trials initiated in 2023.
