Overview

BNT153 is a nucleoside-modified mRNA-based drug developed by BioNTech. It encodes for human interleukin-2 (IL-2), a cytokine that plays a key role in immune system activation. Upon administration, the mRNA is taken up by cells and translated into IL-2 protein, which then targets and binds to the IL-2 receptor beta subunit (IL2Rb) on immune cells. This stimulates an immunostimulatory response aimed at enhancing anti-tumor immunity. The drug is being investigated primarily as an immunotherapy for advanced solid tumors in patients who have no standard treatment options likely to confer clinical benefit[1][3][4].
