BNT164a1 is a multi-antigen mRNA vaccine candidate developed by BioNTech SE aimed at the prevention of tuberculosis (TB) disease. It encodes multiple Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) antigens expressed in different stages and environments of infection to elicit diverse immune effector functions, including both humoral and cellular immune responses. The vaccine includes epitopes for CD4+ and CD8+ T-cells designed to provide broad population coverage through presentation by polymorphic human leukocyte antigens (HLAs). BNT164a1 is administered intramuscularly in a three-dose schedule spaced over several months. Clinical trials are ongoing to evaluate its safety, reactogenicity, immunogenicity, and dose tolerance in healthy volunteers as well as people living with HIV[2][4][8].
