BNT165b1 is an investigational mRNA-based vaccine candidate developed by BioNTech for the prevention of malaria. It is part of the BNT165 program, which aims to create a multi-antigen malaria vaccine. BNT165b1 encodes certain parts of the circumsporozoite protein (CSP) from *Plasmodium falciparum*, the parasite responsible for most cases of severe malaria in humans. The vaccine uses a ribonucleic acid (RNA)-lipid nanoparticle (LNP) platform to deliver these antigens and stimulate an immune response against malaria infection. The primary mechanism involves immunostimulation through expression of CSP segments, aiming to elicit both humoral and cellular immunity. As of early 2024, BNT165b1 has completed Phase 1 clinical trials evaluating its safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity in healthy adult volunteers[1][3][7].
