Bo-Er-Ning capsule

Bo-Er-Ning capsule (BENC) is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) formulation derived from an 11-herb prescription, approved in China as a patent herbal drug (PHD) for the adjuvant treatment of cancer. It is primarily utilized as an add-on therapy to standard chemotherapy regimens, such as the FP (tegafur and cisplatin) or CF (cisplatin and fluorouracil) regimens, specifically for patients with advanced (stage IV) gastric cancer. Clinical evaluations have demonstrated that BENC add-on therapy can improve quality of life, Karnofsky performance scores, and overall survival compared to chemotherapy alone. Mechanistically, bioinformatics and enrichment analyses suggest that BENC modulates cell proliferation, induces cell cycle arrest, and promotes apoptosis by regulating key proteins including Bcl-2, Bax, and caspase-9.
