Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Bocacort is a branded generic inhaled corticosteroid containing fluticasone propionate as its active pharmaceutical ingredient. Developed and marketed by Medicair Greece, it is a potent small molecule agonist of the glucocorticoid receptor (NR3C1). By binding to these receptors in the airways, it modulates gene transcription to inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory mediators and reduce the activity of inflammatory cells such as eosinophils and mast cells. This mechanism effectively reduces airway inflammation, bronchial hyperreactivity, and mucus production. Bocacort is indicated for the maintenance treatment of asthma and the management of symptoms in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It is administered via an inhaler and is intended for long-term control rather than acute relief of bronchospasm.
