Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination antiviral regimen consisting of boceprevir, peginterferon alfa-2b, and ribavirin. It is used for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotype 1 infection in adults with compensated liver disease, including cirrhosis. Boceprevir is a direct acting antiviral agent that inhibits the HCV NS3/4A serine protease, thereby preventing viral replication[3][7]. Peginterferon alfa-2b is a recombinant form of human interferon that stimulates the innate antiviral response by binding to type 1 interferon receptors and activating the JAK/STAT pathway[6]. Ribavirin is a nucleoside analog with broad-spectrum antiviral activity; it enhances viral clearance when combined with interferons. This triple therapy was previously standard-of-care but has largely been replaced by newer direct acting antivirals due to improved efficacy and safety profiles[3][5].
